My Running Songs
I run far across the land.
I run the earth to understand.
And as I come into her space.
I explore her valleys and get lost in her face.
I look deep down into her eyes.
She feels the thunder in my thighs.
I smell the sweetness on her wind.
I feel the fire and go within.
Earthing the Elements of Training
I went out on a forest run.
I came to a clearing where I thought there was sun.
But there danced a fire in a circle of stone.
It danced with wisdom and it danced alone.
And It Said
“Ah! You’re the man that runs with shoes on your feet.
Well, you have no rhythm and have lost your beat.
If you would just place those naked feet in the ground.
I know you would dance to the ancient sound”
So I danced high and I danced slow.
I danced to find the things fire knows.
I danced long to feel its song.
And I danced deep so I could be,
With the rhythm of wisdom that it danced in me.
And I came to that place to study fire’s face,
For the words that it danced left me a trace.
And I follow that trail, drink water as ale,
Dancing with the fire and releasing its tale.
So, I continued down the forest path.
I came to a great canyon crack.
There inside was a Wind of old.
It’s wisdom strong and a song of gold!
And It Sang
“The wind is the word and the word is the wind.
And the word is the wisdom and the wind in the end.
And wisdom is the wind and the wind is the word.
And the wind is the wisdom that is moving to be heard”.
So, I sang high and I sang low.
I sang to find the things Wind knows.
I sang long to hear its song.
And I sang deep so I could be.
The words of wisdom that it sang through me.
I came to that place to study Wind’s face,
For the words that it sings leave me a trace.
And I follow that trail and drink water as ale.
Dancing by the fire and singing its tale.
So, I continued on the path alone.
I came to a doorway, a mountain of stone.
And It Said
“Awe, if you wish to hear me teach,
You must climb my back in your barefeet.
While gripping deep into your bones,
You will field the wisdom of your muscle tone”.
So, I climbed high and I climbed slow.
I climbed to find the things it knows.
I gripped long to hear its song
And I gripped deep so I could see
Words of wisdom that it grounded in me.
And I came to that place to study Stone’s face.
For the words that it grounded left me a trace.
And I follow that trail and drink water as ale,
Dancing stone around the fire and singing its tale.
So I continued on to where the glaciers flow.
And I followed the water to the valley below.
Landing my bare soles in the ocean sand.
That is when I began to understand.
Dance as the fire and run and sing as the wind.
Grip into the stone and flow as the water within.
I will train in these four ways, while on my naked feet.
And with my soles wide open the earth will teach.
Mick, Follow Your Feet,
And the earth will teach,
And the earth will show you,
What to seek!
Mick, I’m in love with your poetry! It speaks to my soul:
I run far across the land.
I run the earth to understand.
And as I come into her space.
I explore her valleys and get lost in her face.
